Niniejsza publikacja jest kontynuacją działań sieci badawczej typu COST: iCON-MICS (Investigation on comics and graphic novels in the Iberian cultural area) takich jak „Comic Book Translation School” (na Wydziale Nauk Społecznych i Humanistycznych Universidade Nova w Lizbonie; 7.04 – 9.04.2022), „Jornada: Banda Desenhada em Português/ Bande Dessinée en Portugais” (konferencja w Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, Clermont-Ferrand; 28.10.2021) lub „Transfeminismo e transnacionalidade na banda desenhada lusófona. O caso Sapata Press” (webinar; 15.03.2023)”. Działania te skupiały się na promocji komiksów z krajów portugalskojęzycznych, natomiast niniejszy leksykon w całości został poświęcony promocji portugalskich opowieści obrazkowych i budowaniu mostów między badaniami naukowymi a rynkiem wydawniczym.
